Build a Solo Practice, LLC

I’m a relatively new solo attorney. I always get asked by other attorneys (both new and seasoned), “How do you find clients?” or “How did you know what to do?” I never respond with what I feel like is a great answer. I guess it’s because there really aren’t good answers to those questions. Like most other things in life, you plan for some event, you prepare to execute the plan, and then you… well, execute. Judging by my experience when I decided to hang my own shingle, one never feels 100% ready, just ready enough.

One huge help is the internet, generally, and various blogs, specifically. One in particular is Susan Cartier Liebel’s blog (Build A Solo Practice, LLC). She offers insightful posts, great links, and her guest bloggers are always an interesting and often-inspiring read.

To potential clients out there: Support your solo practitioners! They are often more efficient, friendlier, more accessible, and definitely cheaper than their bigger firm counterparts.
To potential solo practitioners: Plan wisely and just take a chance! If you’re waiting for a guarantee, you’ll be waiting a long time.
